Helen is one of the lead singers in Sounds of the City. She started singing at the age of 12, and a year later was singing original dance tracks and performing in nightclubs. She is classically trained, but her passion lies in singing pop, jazz, soul and funk. Helen has studied with some of the leading and most respected teachers and musicians including Victoria Newton, Anton Brown, Trudy Kerr, Anita Wardell, Tina May and Laura Zakian. She has also sung on numerous occasions with Bobby Lamb's Big Band. She has performed at venues all over the UK, including Ronnie Scott's, the 606 Jazz Club, Pizza on the Park, and at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

Tim provides the rhythm for Sounds of the City. He is an experienced drummer, having performed all over the UK in such venues as Ronnie Scott's, the Vortex, the Royal Albert Hall and been on tour to America and Europe . He has played in pop, rock, jazz, blues and Latin outfits. Recently he won an award for Big Band drumming and played with the Syd Lawrence orchestra. Along with playing the drums in the band, he triggers samples and sounds from electronic pads on his kit, reproducing parts in the songs that could not otherwise be performed live.

Dan, with his soulful voice, is also at the front of the band. He is from London and has been singing all his life. He has played all over the country with various soul, funk and blues acts, including television appearances. He has also toured the UK and Ireland, performed in Las Vegas and is currently working on recording his original rock/country material.

 

Lorenzo plays the bass in Sounds of the City. Before moving to London, he was performing with a variety of groups in Italy, such as the “Greensleeves Gospel Choir” and the “No One Else Gospel Singers”. He has experience in a number of shows including “Jesus Christ Superstar” and he toured with “Science Of Musical”. His band experience comes from playing with the Soul Sisters (Barbara Evans and Suzie Wong), Dejafunk - a DJ/Loops/Pop project, “The Birth”, along with being a member of the Andy Davies Quartet jazz band which performs all over the world. He teaches electric bass, in the Diapason Music School in Varese and with the Music Agency Teachers@Home. Apart from music, he is interested in films, history, theatre and reading.

Mark has been playing keyboards professionally in bands since he was 16. He has played with several function bands over the years all around the country. For three years he toured with a Robbie Williams tribute band whilst also playing with a Genesis tribute band. Before joining Sounds of the City, Mark was working for three years on Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines where he played piano in the showband and travelled all over the world. His favourite band is Genesis, his favourite pianist is Oscar Peterson, and hobbies include history reading, and travelling.
Lora started playing saxophone at the age of 11. She plays tenor, baritone and alto saxophones, as well as clarinet, bass clarinet and viola. She played in Berkshire Youth Jazz Orchestra, Youth Orchestra and Big Bands for two years, and started the jazz course at Trinity College of Music in 2002. She has a wide range of musical and playing experience: orchestral, session playing, function work, a wide range of small group jazz ensemble playing, salsa big band and small group, and South African band playing. She has appeared at Brecon Jazz Festival, Cheltenham jazz festival, toured in Germany with Trinity Big Band, and she has also taught at Questors Music Trust for the last three years.
Rob Greenwood, our trumpet player, has been playing for over ten years. He is originally from Nottingham and moved to London to further his career. His main interests are in jazz, funk, big bands, soul, pop and more. He has played with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, the London Community Gospel Choirs, Charlotte Church and has been on international tours to Germany and L.A.
David, guitarist in Sounds of the City, started his musical career at the age of eight by studying piano and trombone, gaining experience playing with orchestras and brass bands in Central Scotland including NYJOS (National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland). He soon became interested in the guitar, developing a love for jazz, folk and the blues. Moving to London, he started studying at Trinity College of Music, playing with various bands and gigging at corporate events and functions. Among others, he has played with Young Blood, NJYO (National Youth Jazz Orchestra – England ), SKAZ and Sea-Monkey.
